TREK OVERVIEW:
The Around Nanga Parbat Trek is in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern Pakistan, in the western Himalayas. Nanga Parbat, also called the “King of the Mountains,” is 8,126 meters high and is famous for its three faces: Diamir, Rupal, and Raikot. Known as the “Killer Mountain” due to its challenging climbs, glaciers surround it, rugged ridges of rock and ice, and lies near the Indus River, which flows along its base. This trek offers a unique chance to explore the remote valleys, high meadows, and stunning views around one of the world’s most dramatic peaks.
Trango Adventure is a licensed and authorised travel company in Pakistan with over 40 years of experience. We have been organising the Around Nanga Parbat Base Camp Trek for many years and are proud to offer safe and memorable trekking experiences. The itinerary below is an example of our standard program. You are welcome to follow it as is, or we can create a customised itinerary to suit your specific needs and preferences. #trangoadventure
Islamabad International Airport is the nearest international airport to arrive for trekking holidays in the Karakoram and Himalayan mountains of Pakistan. Our representative will meet you at Islamabad International Airport and transfer you to the group hotel. We will meet again in the evening for the briefing about the trek around Nanga Parbat. Night stay in Islamabad.
From Islamabad, the journey continues with a scenic drive through the Kaghan Valley, passing dense pine forests, flowing rivers, high mountains, and small villages. The route goes through Naran, where travellers often stop for refreshments, and over Babusar Pass (4173m), offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks. The drive ends in Chilas, a historic town on the ancient Silk Route, known for its rock carvings and warm local culture.
The trek officially begins after driving to Astore Valley, a region full of farming villages, wheat fields, fruit orchards, and traditional stone houses. From Astore, a jeep ride takes you through a narrow mountain gorge to Tarishing, a quiet village at the base of Nanga Parbat. This peaceful village is the gateway to the trek, surrounded by mountains and clear streams.
The Around Nanga Parbat Trek continues along the edge of the Tarishing Glacier, which you cross safely with the guide. As you move into Rupal Valley, the landscape opens to green meadows, small houses, and farming fields. Passing Rupal Village, you approach the towering Rupal Face, the highest vertical wall on Earth, before reaching Herrligkoffer Base Camp, a popular spot for mountaineers.
From Herrligkoffer, the trail crosses the Bazhin Glacier and leads to Latobah (Tupp Meadows), a green and tranquil campsite dotted with streams and grazing animals. A rest day in Latobah allows you to explore Latobah Lake, take photos, enjoy the peaceful meadows, and meet local herders with their animals.
Continuing along the Rupal River, you climb gradually toward Mazeno Base Camp, a quiet and remote site surrounded by rocky terrain and high ridges. From here, you ascend further to Mazeno High Camp (4700m), where glaciers and rugged peaks dominate the landscape. The trek then reaches Mazeno Pass (5399m), the highest point of the journey, offering panoramic views of Nanga Parbat and the surrounding glaciers. A careful descent brings you to Loiba Meadows, where greenery returns and you can rest.
The trail continues through birch forests, streams, and flower-filled meadows to reach Airi Goah, a peaceful green valley ideal for relaxation. An easy downhill walk leads to Zangot, a small seasonal settlement with beautiful sunset views. The route climbs gently into Kutagali, a wide open pasture where local families bring their livestock in summer.
From Kutagali, the trek moves toward Diamer Base Camp, the historic climbing side of Nanga Parbat. Here you can see glaciers, memorials, and the classic mountaineering route. A rest day in Diamer allows short walks, photography, and enjoying the surrounding ice fields and peaks. The route then retraces back to Kutagali, providing easier downhill walking.
Next, the trail climbs to Karu Sagar Pass (4400m), offering views of remote peaks and valleys before descending to Shaichi, a green meadow used for seasonal farming. Trekking through forests, streams, and pastures brings you to Gutum Sagar, a grassy area with stunning views of Ganalo Peak. The trail continues to Jalipur High Camp, near the base of the Jalipur Peaks. Adventurous trekkers may climb South Jalipur Peak (5206m) from this point.
The around Nanga Parbat trek journey then leads to Khusto Pass (4,837m), a steep climb followed by a descent into Raikot Valley through willow trees and rocky paths, arriving at Beyal, a picturesque campsite below Nanga Parbat’s north side. From Beyal, you trek to the famous North Base Camp of Nanga Parbat, where you can admire dramatic mountain views and glaciers. After exploration, the route returns to Fairy Meadows, a green paradise with wooden huts, grassy fields, and one of the best sunset views of Nanga Parbat.
The trek ends with a descent to Tato Village, followed by a jeep ride to Raikot Bridge, and then a drive to Naran, a charming mountain town surrounded by forests and rivers. The return journey continues through Kaghan Valley, bringing you back to Islamabad, where your trek concludes with a transfer to the airport for your onward flight home.
The “Around Nanga Parbat Trek” combines adventure, high-altitude landscapes, glaciers, alpine meadows, traditional villages, and some of the most spectacular views in the Himalayas. This around Nanga Parbat trek is ideal for trekkers seeking a full-circuit experience of Nanga Parbat and the surrounding valleys. It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime journey for anyone exploring northern Pakistan.
The Nanga Parbat circuit trek is one of the most strenuous treks in the world, with spectacular mountain vistas as a reward.

ACCOMMODATION
During the Nanga Parbat trek, the group will spend all nights in a good standard hotel and Tents. Accommodation at each of these hotels and tents is twin-sharing with en-suite facilities. If you are travelling by yourself, you will be paired with another single client of the same sex. It is possible to hire a single room for an additional cost. Additional hotel nights in Islamabad are also available. For hotel prices and single supplement costs, please contact us. Hotels are subject to availability, and prices may vary.
HEALTH & VACCINATION
You should contact your doctor or travel clinic to check whether you specifically require any vaccinations or other preventive measures. You should be up to date with routine courses and boosters as recommended in the UK, e.g. diphtheria-tetanus-polio and measles-mumps-rubella, along with hepatitis A and typhoid. Malarial prophylaxis is discretionary for this trip. Malaria exists in the area around Islamabad. However, incidences of urban transmission of malaria are extremely low. In Chilas and the mountains, there is no malaria risk. A good online resource is Travel Health Pro. Dengue fever is a known risk in places visited. It is a tropical viral disease spread by daytime-biting mosquitoes. There is currently no vaccine or prophylaxis available, and therefore, the best form of prevention is to avoid being bitten. We recommend you take precautions to avoid mosquito bites
INSURANCE
We highly recommend that you have adequate travel insurance for your trip with Trango Adventure Pakistan. We recognise the complexity and variety of choices in the insurance market and know that many of you either have your preferred insurer or have annual multi-trip cover in place already. If this is the case, please ensure that your insurer is aware of your Trango Adventure itinerary and can agree to cover the activities being undertaken.
Trango Adventure does not provide any advice on travel insurance, although it is highly recommended that you have travel insurance which covers the activities you are likely to undertake on your holiday.
It is strongly recommended that suitable cancellation insurance be purchased at the time of booking, as all deposits (Royalty Fees) for the Expedition are non-refundable and non-transferable.

ALTITUDE
The Nanga Parbat base camp trek involves going to high altitudes. During your trip, you will be above 3,500 metres for 1-2 days. This is not something that you should worry about; the human body is quite capable of adapting to a very wide range of altitudes, but we must follow some simple rules to acclimatise successfully. Before coming on this holiday, you should get some basic advice on Tours at high altitudes.
CLIMATE
From mid-June to August, we can expect to encounter temperatures as high as 40°C in Islamabad and Chila and 25°C in the Nanga Parbat region. The weather is generally good throughout the summer season, with clear skies and little rain or snow. However, the weather in mountainous areas is difficult to predict, and short-lived storms can occur at any time.
