It is an ideal destination for trekkers and climbers seeking adventure in a remote and breathtaking landscape.
For 40 years, we have been offering our services for the Nangma Valley Trek in Pakistan to mountaineering enthusiasts from all over the world. Trango Adventures operates a 12-day-long trek to Nangma Valley.
Our Nangma Valley Trek starts from Islamabad. Our representative will meet and greet you at Islamabad International Airport and then transfer you to the group hotel. The rest of the day in Islamabad is reserved for recovery from the journey. In the afternoon, we will meet for a briefing about the trek. The next day, we will catch a spectacular mountain flight to Skardu, Baltistan. During the flight, you may catch a glimpse of Nanga Parbat, K2, and other stunning Himalayan and Karakoram peaks. Upon arrival in Skardu, we will check into our hotel and enjoy a day of rest and preparation.
Skardu is the capital of Baltistan and serves as the gateway to the mighty K2, Gondogoro La, Broad Peak, Masherbrum, Gasherbrum, and many other famous Karakoram peaks. Trekkers and climbers usually make their final purchases and top-ups for their journey here. The following day, we will drive along the mighty Indus River, then follow the Shyok River through the lush green Khaplu Valley. After spending the first night in Khaplu, we will begin our trek from Kande, entering the heart of the Karakoram. We will walk toward Mingulu Broq, marking the start of the Nangma Valley Trek.
The trek to Nangma Valley offers an immersive experience in the rugged beauty of the Karakoram. The journey involves crossing glacial streams, trekking through alpine meadows, and witnessing awe-inspiring granite spires towering over the valley. Nangma Valley is famous for its dramatic rock formations, including the iconic Great Tower, Grey Tower, Changi Tower, and King & Son Peak. These majestic peaks create an unforgettable backdrop for trekkers and climbers alike. The base camp provides an extraordinary setting where one can truly appreciate the vastness and serenity of the Karakoram.
After exploring Nangma Valley, we will continue our trek towards Amin Braq Basecamp, where stunning panoramic views of Amin Braq, Drefekhar Peak, and Brak Zang Peak await. The transition from lush green meadows to rugged alpine terrain makes a fascinating contrast.
As we descend back through pristine landscapes, we return to Kanday Village, providing opportunities to interact with local Balti communities and observe their traditional way of life. Accommodations will be arranged in either a guesthouse or a campsite, ensuring a comfortable stay before returning to Skardu.
Once back in Skardu, trekkers will have time to relax and reflect on their journey. Weather permitting, we will take a scenic flight back to Islamabad. If time allows, an afternoon of sightseeing, shopping, or cultural exploration awaits. However, in case of flight cancellations, we will travel by road via the Karakoram Highway.
Upon returning to Islamabad, we will conclude the adventure with a farewell group dinner, celebrating the successful completion of the trek. Guests will then be transferred to the airport for their flights home, bringing an end to an unforgettable adventure holiday in the Karakoram.

If the weather is clear, then will take the flight to Islamabad. Skardu Airport is a 40-minute drive from the hotel along a good road lined with poplar trees. Boarding our plane, we have an exciting flight out of the valley, once again passing by Nanga Parbat before turning south for Islamabad. Arriving in the Pakistani capital after a period in the mountains is always a strange experience, and it takes a little time to get used to the hustle and bustle, especially the traffic. Our private bus will be waiting at the airport to transfer us to the group hotel, and once we have settled in it will be time to take lunch (unless we have experienced unusual flight delays). After lunch, the rest of the day is free for independent sightseeing or to relax at the hotel. Your Guide will advise you on the possibilities for sightseeing. Shopping for hand-made Iranian & Afghan rugs is a usually popular option. This evening, we meet again for a celebratory meal at the hotel or in a local restaurant.
In Case of Flight cancellation, we will drive down the Karakoram Highway. We will arrive in Chillas late afternoon.

CONTINGENCY DAY IN CASE OF DELAYS, ISLAMABAD:
Skardu is a ‘weather dependent’ airport, which means the planes will only fly here if the visibility allows line of sight to the runway by the pilot on the approach. Fortunately, the weather is mostly clear in the Karakoram but local weather conditions can bring clouds and rain from time to time. If we cannot fly, we will travel down to Islamabad by road along the spectacular Karakoram Highway. If we flew up to Skardu, this would be a bonus as it is a fantastic travel experience in its own right. The drive down the Indus River to Islamabad takes two days, so this is an important contingency day to allow for this. If we have flown to Islamabad, this will be a further day for sightseeing in the capital, and your leader will advise the group on the options available for today.

Internal flights
Skardu flight
Skardu Valley is a place where tall mountains surround the airport. Aeroplanes can only land there when the weather is clear and easy to see. Usually, planes can fly to Skardu Valley without any problems. But sometimes, the flights can get cancelled if the weather is extremely bad.
However, there is some good news! Skardu Airport has upgraded to an international airport with GPS technology. This means that the chances of flights getting cancelled are much lower now.
Skardu Airport was upgraded to international status and underwent a re-inauguration on December 2, 2021, following extensive enhancements aimed at transforming it into a prominent tourism hub. The airport now facilitates direct flights from Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Dubai. Since the upgrades, flight cancellations have significantly decreased, and cancellation chances are now low. Last summer, we had only one flight cancellation, and our clients had to travel by road on KKH. While we travel on KKH, we avoid travelling through the areas not recommended by the UK and US foreign offices.
In case of flight cancellation, you will travel on Karakorum Highway to Naran for a night stay and the next day continue your journey to arrive in Skardu. Islamabad to Naran distance is 281 km and a 9-hour drive. Naran to Skardu is a 10-hour drive on the Karakoram highway along the mighty Gilgit and Indus rivers. Travelling by road on the Karakoram Highway is as spectacular as taking a flight.
Health & vaccination
You should contact your doctor or travel clinic to check whether you specifically require any vaccinations or other preventive measures. You must have your routine courses and boosters as recommended in your home country. Diphtheria, tetanus-polio and measles-mumps-rubella, along with hepatitis A and typhoid. Malaria exists in the area around Islamabad and Rawalpindi. However, incidences of urban transmission of malaria are extremely low. In Gilgit Baltistan and the mountains, there is no malaria risk.
We recommend having a dental check-up as you will spend most of your time in remote areas.
Travel Health Pro is an online resource for more detailed information. Dengue fever is a known risk in Rawalpindi. We recommend you take precautions to avoid getting mosquito bites.
Insurance
We highly recommend you have adequate travel insurance for your trekking holiday with Trango Adventure. An insurance premium to cover trip cancellations, flight cancellations, luggage loss, medical costs and heli rescue from high altitude. We understand that many options are available in the insurance market, and choosing the right one can be complex. However, it is essential to have a policy that covers the above items.
Before purchasing a policy, inform the insurance company of your base camp trek itinerary to ensure that they can cover the activities you will be undertaking.
While travel insurance is not mandatory for joining the trek, we strongly advise that you have an insurance policy that covers the activities you will be doing during the Base Camp Trek.

Have a reasonable level of fitness to enjoy the trek. Although much of the time is spent hiking on the Baltoro, crampons and ice axes are not required. There may be one or two occasions where a rope is in place to help you ascend or descend steep slopes on the glacier. Most days involve seven hours of walking plus plenty of rest stops.
